Aaron Krowne

Aaron Krowne was the Head of Digital Library Research for the Digital Programs and Systems Group at the Emory University Libraries until 2007. He helped coordinate the technical side of work on a variety of grants and worked on the Cyberinfrastructure for Scholars project, the Quality Metrics project (IMLS), the MetaCombine project(Mellon), and the OCKHAM project (NSF). He also advises on a variety of other ongoing grant projects, and participates in library initiatives to transfer technology from the grant projects to production services and collections, such as the current effort to implement semantic clustering on the Southern Changes collection.

[edit] Background

Aaron has both a MS in Computer Science and a BS in Mathematics from Virginia Tech. During his master's studies, he worked at Virginia Tech Digital Library Research Lab, under Edward A. Fox on the CITIDEL project (a computer science digital library, part of the NSDL, and funded by NSF), and PlanetMath, which heexposited for his Master's thesis. He has also interned for Microsoft, SAIC, and the Naval Research Laboratory, and done freelance programming work essentially continuously. He has been programming professionally since about 1995.

[edit] Interests

Aaron's interests include Digital libary systems architecture (especially componentized),information retrieval, collaborative filtering (including reputation andrecommender systems), data mining (including classification and semantic clustering), commons-based peer production (CBPP)and computer supported cooperative work (CSCW), discrete and numeric algorithms, and metamathematics.
