Arthur Murphy

Arthur Murphy is Web Services Team Leader at the Emory University Libraries. He uses his information architecture skills to develop websites, multimedia, and cohesive user experiences to support access to library information resources by students, faculty, and staff.

[edit] Background

Arthur has an MS in Information Design and Technology [1997] from the Georgia Institute of Technology , and a BA in English Literature [1967] from Middlebury College. Arthur has worked in the field of information technology in both private industry (IBM) and academia (Georgia Tech + Emory University).

Arthur’s computer experience includes ten years of software design, two years of multimedia creation, and six years experience in Internet development. His current work in information architecture is informed by his expertise in issues of accessibility. His employment prior to Emory University includes both traditional information systems design and teaching in an academic environment designed for the inclusion of students with disabilities.

Arthur co-taught CS 8803-HCI Professional Practicum in the HCI Masters program in the College of Computing at Georgia Institute of Technology: spring semester 2006, fall semester 2006-7, and fall semester 2007-8.

Arthur's primary interest is in the area of usability, with a specialization in accessibility for people with disabilities.

He served as peer review panelist for the National Science Foundation’s SBIR grant program to fund innovative technology to assist people with disabilities – August 2001, September 2002, August 2003, and August 2004.
