Electronic Thesis and Disseration (ETD) services of various kinds have now been in operation at universities for more than a decade, a very long period in comparison with the range of digital services now offered in research institutions. As a relatively mature concept in academic information technology services, ETD depositories are frequently one of the core components of the umbrella notion of the institutional repository (IR) that has emerged in the early twenty-first century. The embedded relationships of campus ETD programs and institutional repositories are still solidifying, and are worth careful analysis.
