Applying to the University of North Texas School of Library and Information Sciences - Georgia Cohort - is a two-part procedure involving two separate applications. Parties interested in competing for the Librarians for the Digital Age Scholarship must complete a third application as outlined below. Students will apply to, be admitted and advised by University of North Texas (UNT) School of Library and Information Sciences (SLIS). To be eligible for consideration for the Librarians for the Digital Age Scholarship, one must first be admitted to both the UNT Toulouse School of Graduate Studies and to the UNT School of Library and Information Sciences (UNT SLIS) master's program. Applicants are advised to submit admissions applications no later than January 30, 2008.

[edit] UNT Graduate School Application

All applicants must be admitted to the Toulouse School of Graduate Studies at UNT before being considered for admission to UNT SLIS or the UNT/EMORY/AUC/IMLS Scholarship. The following is a quick reference guide to the Toulouse School of Graduate Studies admissions process:

Send (or have sent) items 1-4 to the: UNT Toulouse School of Graduate Studies, Eagle Student Services Center, Room 354, P. O. Box 305459, Denton TX 76203-5459

Includes:

  1. Application to the UNT Toulouse School of Graduate Studies. You need to complete the Graduate School minimum qualifications before you will be considered for admission to the School of Library and Information Sciences. International students should use the International Student application.
  2. Official transcripts from all colleges attended.
  3. Official scores on one of the following entrance exams: the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)1-800-GRE-CALL or visit GRE website, Millers Analogies Test (MAT) 1-800-622-3231 or visit MAT website, or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) Visit GMAT website.
  4. Application fee.

[edit] UNT SLIS Application

While submitting the Toulouse School of Graduate Studies application, applicants should concurrently send (or have sent) the items listed in 1-3 below to the: School of Library and Information Sciences, P. O. Box 311068, Denton, TX 76203-1068

  1. SLIS Application (HTML) SLIS Application (PDF requires Adobe Acrobat) Print and mail the form to SLIS.
  2. A one-to-two-page essay stating your purpose and goals in applying to our program. In your statement, include the nature of your interest, how you became interested in the field, your short- and long-term goals, the strengths that you would bring to the information profession, and how the UNT program will help meet your career and educational objectives. Please submit the statement on separate pages, but mail it with your SLIS application.
  3. Three recommendation forms (PDF) Recommendation Form (HTML)

[edit] Librarians for the Digital Age Scholarship Application

35 scholarships will be awarded to qualified individuals who complete and return the application outlined below. The scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis, therefore interested students should carefully address scholarship criteria and application requirements. The UNT/EMORY/AUC/IMLS Scholarship application package must include:

  1. A completed UNT/EMORY/AUC/IMLS Scholarship Application Print it out, complete the application and return it to Yvonne J. Chandler, Associate Professor, UNT/IMLS Scholars Program, School of Library and Information Sciences, P.O.Box 311068, Denton,TX 76203-1068.
  2. A copy of all transcripts (official or unofficial copy, either is acceptable) of your complete college, graduate, or professional school scholastic record.
  3. Three letters of recommendation.
  4. A copy of your entrance examination test scores
  5. A personal statement

The scholarship deadline is March 1, 2008. Scholarship award winners will be notified by June 2008.


Please note, all of the application materials must be submitted in one packet, including the application, letters of recommendation, copies of transcripts, test scores, and essay. To be considered for a UNT/EMORY/AUC/IMLS Scholarship, one must first be admitted to the University of North Texas Toulouse School of Graduate Studies and to the University of North Texas School of Library and Information Sciences master's program. Applicants are strongly urged to submit both applications by January 30, 2008.

Scholarship applications are currently under review. Candidates will be notified via US Mail by June 2008.

  • January 30, 2008 – SLIS applicants are advised to submit both, University of North Texas Toulouse School of Graduate Studies and University of North Texas School of Library and Information Sciences applications by this date.
  • March 1, 2008Librarians for the Digital Age Scholarship Application deadline
  • August 29, 2008 – September 1, 2008 – First four-day Web-Institute at Emory University and beginning of the Georgia MLIS Program with UNT and Emory University
  • January 16, 2009 – January 19, 2009 – Second four-day Web-Institute at Emory University
