Recto: Old Slave Mart Museum, Charleston, South Carolina; Verso: Distributed by Middleton Advertising Company, Charleston, S.C. Curteichcolor (R) 3-D Natural Color Reproduction (Reg. U.S.A. Pat. Off.) Post card. Place stamp here. 9C-K199. Old Slave Mart Museum. 6 Chalmers St., Charleston, S.C. From 1830 to 1862 this was the office of one of Charleston's slave auctioneers. Established as a museum in 1937. Here the visitor sees actual documents of slave transactions, hears lectures on arts and crafts which were taught the slaves by their masters and sees relics of the skilled workmanship which helped the plantations to be self-supporting. Note the cobblestone street still in use in the historic city
