Description / Abstract:
The men in this photograph are believed to be James (Jim) Good, Jeff Hopkins, William Chambers, and Ed Warner (or possibly William Edwards). Three other Black men were also murdered by white lynchers in Mt. Vernon during the same massacre or in the preceding days but do not appear in the photograph. They are Daniel Harris, Sr., and his sons Daniel Harris, Jr., and John Harris. Those depicted in the photograph were identified through the research of scholar Mark Auslander and his students at Mount Holyoke College.
