Description / Abstract:
Recto: Senator Johnson; Verso: State Senator Leroy R. Johnson, Atlanta, Georgia. First negro to be elected to the Georgia State Senate in 92 years. An attorney, Senator Johnson has been active in Georgia politics for several years. Since his election he has appeared as a guest speaker in every major city in America. He has already appointed 12 boys and girls as pages to the Georgia Senate chambers. Along with Gerald A. Lamb of Connecticut and Edward W. Brooke of Massachusetts, he was named to receive the Lovejoy Award (1963) of the I.B.P.O. Elks of the World, their highest award. Color by H.F. Gardner, C15048
