Description / Abstract:
Recto: Thomas Burton; Verso: Carte postale - Postkarte - Post Card - Tarjeta Postal, Thomas Burton. The oldest man in Jamaica. Born on the 1st August 1799, and still alive to-day at the age of 111. Father Burton (as he is called), was born near, and now lives in St. Ann the Garden Parish of Jamaica, famed for its health-invigorating climate. He has had the rare privilege of living in three centuries. His intellect is clear and keen, he is vigorous and active and is able to read without the artificial aid of glasses. His favourite topic of conversation is The American War of Independence during which period he was a slave; and even to-day he enjoys himself in relating the reverse of the British arms. George Washington is his hero, and he has always insisted upon holding up the great general to all men as an example of true manhood and patriotism. Printed in Germany
