- Verso: Jan. 24, 1942, Daily, Inspecting Pilots Serving With First All-Negro Unit of U.S. Army Air Corps, Major James A. Ellison returning the salute of a member of the 99th Pursuit Squadron at Tuskegee, Ala. This unit has been in training since last September. Cadets becoming second lieutenants will be assigned as instructors to other Negro groups in training. 4 col, Negroes, Twar, Uncle Sam's First All-Negro Squadron, Tuskegee, Ala.--The U.S. Army's first all-Negro air unit, the 99th Pursuit Squadron, has been in training there since September. These pictures, just released by the Army, show them in training. After they have completed their training, the cadets will be commissioned as secon lieutenants and assigned as instructors to other Negro groups awaiting training. 635092, New York Bureau, Major James A.
