Description / Abstract:
Verso: Old slave market at Louisville, Georgia. Built in 1758 as a market place. Slaves were wold here by traders returning from Africa. Large bell inside was a gift to a New Orleans convent by the king of France sent over in 1772, the ship was sacked at sea by pirates and the bell was sols in Savannah, Georgia. It was later given to the state and placed here to sound the alarm of Indian raids.
