Verso: Eli Whitney 1765-1825: Inventor of the Cotton Gin. With the invention of the Cotton Gin slavery became an important factor in Southern States. The South was soon a country of vast cotton plantations, increasing the need for slaves. This disrupted the Union and ultimately brought on the Civil War.
