Recto: Drawing plants from tobacco seed bed on a Carolina plantation; Verso: Tobacco seeds are sown in a plant bed. This is usually a small plot of land in a protected spot and a large sheet of cotton cloth is spread over it to protect the young plants from a frost until they mature.
