Description / Abstract:
Recto: His last message. To members and friends of St. Paul's Church greetings: Our march down the road of time has been one of joy and peace in the Holy Spirit. God has been very good to us, blessings being manifold on every hand; sorrow has been ours to be sure, but let us trust that it has always been and let us make it at this hour a glory for God. For, as Paul says: the suffering of this life is not to be compared with the glory that shall be revealed in us through Jesus Christ our Lord. I knew last Sunday the urge to preach the Gospel was never more demanding upon me. It seemed a test case, and I felt woe is to me if I preach not the Gospel. I worked hard, I have been tired, certainly our work has not been all we have desired, but thanks be to God through Jesus Christ we are saved by grace, which is God's free gift, and while we have not reached the ideal, remember, faith and grace are our eternal hope. It may be now the Lord will rest me for awhile. I know not His will in this matter. One step is enough for me, I care not to see, but I can say whether in the light or in the shadow for me to life is Christ, but for me to die is gain. Keep the faith which has been delivered unto the faithful until death and our saviour and redeemer Jesus Christ will give us a crown of eternal life. Your Pastor, E.D.W. Bell, May 3rd, 1925
