Recto: The Hampton Institute Quartette. J.H. Wainwright, bass. Jeremiah Thomas, baritone. J.A. Bailey, second tenor. W.E. Creekmur, first tenor; Verso: Post card. Hampton Institute, two miles from Fort Monroe, Virginia, was founded in 1868 by General S.C. Armstrong for the practical development of Negro leadership. The present annual enrollment is more than 2300 (including the Training and Summer Schools and Extension Classes). In addition tot he Academy, or high-school course, it gives courses in thirteen different trades and in agriculture, business, home economics, teacher training, music, library science, and nurse training. Hampton policy--Educate the whole man is the idea; fit the pupil for the life he is likely to lead.--Armstrong. $100 provides scholarship aid for one student for one year. Arthur Howe, president.
