Description / Abstract:
Recto: City gate, St. Augustine, Fla.; Verso: Post Card, Published by H.J. Usina, St. Augustine, Fla. Made in U.S.A. City gate. All the remains of the ancient entrance to St. Augustine are the two solid square posts, not high enough to be called towers, flanked by a few feet Conquina wall. This old Spanish gate was, at one time, a most formidable land approach, a guard house stood just within and a draw bridge crossed the moat. A dence growth of Spanish bayonet on the parapet made a passage impossible.
