Narrative by Isabell Smith Buzzett, "Five Churches Sherman Didn't Burn." Buzzett describes the actions taken by a priest, Father Thomas O'Reilly in an effort to save five of Atlanta's prominent churches from destruction by General Sherman during the destruction of Atlanta in 1864. O'Reilly's pastorate, the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, was saved, as were the Second Baptist, Second (Central) Presbyterian, St. Philip's Episcopal, and Trinity Methodist Churches (typescript)
